Brunch N' Grind
The Problem: "Jersey ain't got nice things?" This is the question I always ask myself and friends whenever we are invited to a day party, professional networking event, happy hour, or just a brunch date in the city. Why do I always find myself in the “city that never sleeps”? Why is it that when my friends and I want to paint the town melanin, the town is always Brooklyn? Why can’t I go through another weekend without a $15 toll, which could have been spent on a martini.
The Solution: Brunch N’ Grind.
A year ago, December 2015 to be exact, a girlfriend of mine sent me the link and asked me to accompany her. Of course I accepted the invitation because I NEVER turn down a brunch date and the fact that the event was conveniently hosted in Newark, NJ at the Indigo hotel rooftop and NOT in New York was a huge plus. As the elevator doors opened up to the rooftop bar, I was taken aback and in total awe of the turnout. There were about 50 beautiful black professionals sipping on their mimosas and moving to the beats of the DJ spinning R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Old school, and Trap Music. There was an unlimited brunch buffet set up, a cash bar serving unlimited mimosas and other drinks for purchase, and a cute Step and Repeat banner with Brunch Props for pictures. My overall experience at my first Brunch N’ Grind was amazing. Great food, popping music, like-minded people, and of course bottomless mimosas. I couldn't have asked for more. I decided after the first brunch that I would try to attend and support as many Brunch N’ Grind events as possible in order to network and surround myself with young professionals with the similar goals, while enjoying my favorite past time.
I recently attended my latest Brunch N' Grind series on New Year’s Day held at Deltas restaurant in New Brunswick. The Hangover Cure was the 7th brunch held by Founder Shanea Phillips, simply known as Shay, and DJ'd by the popular DJ Wallah. Tickets were $30 for the soul food brunch which included a delicious brunch buffet that consisted of Mac N Cheese, Candied Yams, Chicken and Waffles, and a Tall Pitcher of Mimosa for $7.
When asked about the importance of Brunch N' Grind and the concept, Founder Shanea Philips responded, "As a people, it’s becoming even more important to stick together and support each other. Brunch has increasingly become part of the weekend tradition throughout the country and especially in major cities like New York and DC. It brings people of all backgrounds together (as food and libations usually do) and is a great avenue for networking and meeting new people." If you are looking for a way to connect to other goal oriented, like minded people, while simultaneously eating, drinking, and vibing to great music, then Brunch N’ Grind is absolutely THE WAVE!!!
