One of Everything, Please! {Zengo NYC}

Are you that one friend that’s forced to order from the prefix menu when brunching with the crew even though you don’t drink? And then when the bill arrives, you’re wondering why you’re paying $45+ for eggs, toast, and a mimosa you passed to your friends? Or are you that one friend that goes to brunch for the food and not so much for the champagne hangover the next morning? Either way, I may have a solution.

Zengo is a Latin/Asian fusion restaurant conveniently located a few blocks from New York Penn Station that offers a bottomless brunch which includes unlimited plates and free flowing cocktails for $42 per person (not including tax & gratuity). As I walked through the glass doors, the first thing that caught my eye was the decor which included high ceilings, elaborate light fixtures, and artistically placed plants and vines.

 We were seated pretty quickly even though we were half an hour late for our reservation which may be because of how large and spacious the venue was. Our waiter handed us the menu and explained that we had the option of ordering individually or he could bring one of everything on the menu to try and continue to bring out our favorites in the 2-hour time frame that is usually given for brunch. Of course, we decided to go with one of everything

After ordering from the extensive brunch cocktail list that includes margaritas, a variety of mimosas, and sake sangria, we drank and vibed to the background music playing a mix of top 40 and Latin tracks while anxiously waiting for our feast. The first round of plates to come out were the lobster-chipotle grits, citrus cured salmon roll, and Thai chicken empanadas. We set our drinks to the side as we began to dig in and try everything put in front of us. Shortly after finishing the first round, we were already being presented with the second. Whenever we were presented with a new round, the waiter described what was placed in front of us and assured us that more would be coming. What started out as an unquenchable thirst to try everything quickly turned into a plea for no more food after 5 rounds of small plates. As the waiter approached our table with dessert, I realized I had only had 1 margarita and half of a lychee mimosa since being seated. I hesitantly stared at the Mexican chocolate waffle and croissant bread pudding knowing I would beat myself up later if I didn’t at least try them to make sure I wasn’t missing out.

Although I usually brunch for the bottomless mimosas and brunch cocktails, I walked out of Zengo with a great sense of fulfillment knowing I tried almost everything on the menu for a great price; I didn’t even miss the drinks.
