As the movement of Young Black professionals and entrepreneurs continue to dominate the NJ social scene in hopes of making Jersey LIT, a Trenton Native, Lauren Porter has started and created what is now known as Lpotsseatery.
Lpotsseatery is a series of pop up dinner parties that brings like-minded people together over food in an innovative way. No two dinners are alike and this can be seen by the constant rotation of location, food, and audience. “With each dinner, I want to create a “one-time only” experience that my guests will appreciate”, said Lauren when asked about the concept.
Since hosting her first dinner on a rooftop in Trenton, NJ, Lauren has went on to host 4 more dinners at different locations including the Alfa Art Gallery in New Brunswick and the Jersey City Art School, to name a few. After her 5th pop up dinner last month, I had a chance to sit with Lauren over her homemade Lemon ginger vodka for a little Q&A and this is what she had to say.
“My dinners have mainly attracted black millennial professionals. Though people of all backgrounds all are welcome to attend, I recognize there’s a need for intimate and authentic events in our communities. I want people to appreciate the entire experience. I want them to come and say they met some dope people, the food was on point, and the ambience was one of a kind”.
When asked why she decided to turn her idea into a business, she responded “I had to legitimize what I do. This is not a side hustle or back-up plan for me. I want to be taken seriously as not only a creative, but as an entrepreneur. I’m setting myself up to get to the point where I no longer have to work unfulfilling 9-5’s and can go at this full time, so I had to replace the hash tag with LLC. In 5 years, I want to be doing things on a larger scale. That could be hosting pop-up dinners for more people, collaborating with well-known chefs, hosting dinners in other states… I may even come out with my own line of spice blends. Who knows; the possibilities are endless!”
On April 22nd, Lauren hosted a taste testing in New Brunswick where audience were able to try out original recipes made by Lauren herself. With over 25 people in attendance, the guests were able sample all 4 items on the menu which included Jerk chicken wings with pineapple jerk glaze and a Turkey BLT with basil garlic aioli. Due to the great turnout and amazing feedback, Lauren plans to host several tastings throughout the year.
Lauren is a creative entrepreneur who cooks, caters, and develops recipes. She’s a fearless woman who’s doing the damn thing and I cannot wait for future events.
